การเดินทางโดยรถยนต์ส่วนตัว

การเดินทางโดยรถยนต์ส่วนตัวไปตัวอำเภอปายนั้นเริ่มจาก กทม.ให้ใช้เส้นทาง ที่ขึ้นไปเชียงใหม่คือ ทางหลวงหมายเลข 1 แล้วเข้าทางหลวงหมายเลข 32 ผ่านอยุธยา อ่างทอง สิงห์บุรี ชัยนาท อุทัยธานี นครสวรรค์ จากนั้นเลี้ยวกลับเข้าสู่ทางหลวงหมายเลข 1 ขับมุ่งหน้าสู่กำแพงเพชร ตาก พอถึงลำปางให้ ใช้ทางหลวงหมายเลข 11 ตรงไปตลอดจนถึงเชียงใหม่ นอนพักที่เชียงใหม่ซัก 1คืน เพื่อเป็นการพักคน พักรถ รุ่งเช้าก็มุ่งหน้าสู่ อ.ปาย โดยไปทาง อ.แม่ริม จ.เชียงใหม่ จากนั้นให้ใช้ทางหลวงหมายเลข 107 วิ่งตรงไป ก่อนถึง อ.แม่แตง จะมีทางแยก คือ สามแยกแม่มาลัย เลี้ยวซ้ายเข้าทางหลวงหมายเลข 1095 ทางช่วงนี้จะเป็นทางขึ้นเขาลงเขาตลอด ควรขับรถด้วยความระมัดระวัง จากสามแยกแม่มาลัยถึงตัว อำเภอปาย ระยะทางประมาณ 80 ก.ม. ถ้านับจากตัวเมืองเชียงใหม่ ระยะทางประมาณ 130 ก.ม. ต้องใช้ เวลาเดินทางประมาณ 2-3 ชั่วโมง สำหรับรถยนต์ส่วนตัว แต่ถ้าเป็นรถโดยสารประจำทาง จะใช้เวลาถึง 4 -5 ชั่วโมงเลยทีเดียว อันเนื่องจากเป็นทางที่ตัดผ่านพื้นที่ภูเขานั่นเอง ..และในเส้นทางนี้จะผ่านอุทยาน แห่งชาติห้วยน้ำดังด้วย

รถโดยสารประจำทาง

การเดินทางไปโดยรถประจำทางนั้น ก็ง่ายๆๆครับ ไปขึ้นรถที่หมอชิตครับ บริษัทไหนก็ได้ แต่ถ้าจะให้นั่ง นอน สะดวกขอแนะนำ รถ VIP 24 ที่นั่งของ บขส.ครับ ราคา 625 บาท แต่ถ้าเป็นรถ ป.1 ก็จะอยู่ราวๆ 400 กว่าบาทครับ โดยจองตั๋วไปลงที่เชียงใหม่ เพราะเราต้องไปต่อรถ ที่อาเขต(ขนส่ง)เพื่อที่จะไปยัง อ. ปาย โดยรถที่จะไปปาย เป็นของ บ.เปรมประชา ขนส่ง จำกัด ซึ่งได้รับสัปทานวิ่งสาย เชียงใหม่-ปาย- แม่ฮ่องสอน โดยรถจะจอดที่ชานชลา ที่ 7-8 มีรถวิ่งตามเวลาดังนี้ครับ 07.00 09.00 10.30 12.00 13.30 16.00 ส่วนขากลับ 08.00 09.00 10.30 12.00 13.30 16.00 ทั้งนี้ต้องสอบถามเวลากันเอาเองนะครับ เพราะเวลาที่นี่ไม่ค่อยจะตรงซักเท่าไหร่ ยังงัยก็โทรไปสอบถามที่ บ.เปรมประชา ขนส่ง โทร.0-5324- 4737

รถสองแถว

ทั้งขาไป-ขากลับจะมีรถสองแถวคอยรับ คนที่จะไปปายครับ ถ้าทนการเบียดเสียดไม่ไหว รถสองแถวน่า จะเป็นอีกทางเลือกนึง ค่าโดยสาร คนไทย 100 บาท ต่างชาติ 150 บาท ได้ซัก 10 คนเค้าก็ออกรถเลย ถ้าไม่ถึง 10 คนก็ต้องรอนะครับ รถจะจอดข้างๆๆขนส่ง(ทั้งที่อาเขตและที่ อ.ปาย)นั่นแหละ ไม่ต้องห่วง ครับเดี๋ยวก็จะมีคนเข้ามาถามเองแหละ... การเดินทางไปกับรถสองแถว จะใช้เวลาประมาณ 3 ชั่วโมง เร็ว กว่ารถโดยสาร 1 ชั่วโมงครับ

"เต็น" ไม่พอใจที่เห็นคนมือบอนเขียนลงในหนังสือท่องเที่ยวเล่มนั้น เขาจึงเขียนข้อความฝากไปถึงคนมือบอนคนนั้น จนกระทั่งได้พบกับ "เภา" ที่ปางอุ๋ง แม่ฮ่องสอน

พวกเขานัดเจอกันครั้งแล้วครั้งเล่า เดินทางไปยังสถานที่ท่องเที่ยวต่างๆด้วยกัน แล้วทั้งคู่ก็ตกลงกันว่าจะดูแลกันและกันตลอดไป

แต่เรื่องราวเหมือนจะเป็นไปด้วยดี จนมาถึงวันครบรอบวันเกิดของ"เต็น" เภาซึ่งเตรียมเอาของขวัญมาให้ แต่มีเหตุการณ์บางอย่าง ทำให้ของขวัญชิ้นนั้นไม่มาถึงมือเขา แต่คำสัญญาที่ทั้งคู่เคยให้ไว้ต่อกัน เป็นดังคำมั่นที่เต็นยังคงเก็บและรอคอยว่าสักวันหนึ่งพวกเขาจะได้อยู่ร่วมกันตลอดไป

อุทยานแห่งชาติห้วยน้ำดัง

อุทยานแห่งชาติห้วยน้ำดัง เป็นอุทยานแห่งชาติ ลำดับที่ 81 ของประเทศไทย ซึ่งกรมป่าไม้ได้เลือกให้เป็นอุทยานแห่งชาติฉลอง 100 ปี กรมป่าไม้และเฉลิมพระเกียรติพระบาทสมเด็จพระเจ้าอยู่หัวเนื่องในวโรกาสที่ทรงครองราชย์ปีที่ 50 เมื่อวันที่ 29 กุมภาพันธ์ 2539 สมเด็จพระเจ้าพี่นางเธอ เจ้าฟ้ากัลยาณิวัฒนากรมหลวงนราธิวาสราชนครินทร์ได้เสด็จทรงประกอบพิธีเปิดป้ายอุทยานแห่งชาติห้วยน้ำดังอย่างเป็นทางการ อุทยานแห่งชาติห้วยน้ำดัง มีจุดชมวิวที่มีความสวยงามทางธรรมชาติความงดงามของท้องทะเลหมอก สามารถที่จะมองเห็นเทือกเขาดอยหลวงเชียงดาวได้อย่างชัดเจน

ลักษณะภูมิประเทศ
สภาพภูมิประเทศเป็นเทือกเขาและภูเขาสูงที่สลับซับซ้อนทอดตัวยาวตามแนวเหนือ-ใต้และอยู่ในแนวเดียวกันกับเทือกเขาเชียงดาว ภูเขาต่าง ๆ ในพื้นที่ที่มีความสูงชันตั้งแต่ 500-1,962 เมตร จากระดับน้ำทะเล มีภูเขาที่สูงที่สุดคือ ดอยช้าง เป็นป่าต้นน้ำลำธาร มีลำห้วยน้อยใหญ่มากมาย ได้แก่ ห้วยแม่เย็น ห้วยแม่ฮี้ ห้วยแม่ปิง ห้วยแม่จอกหลวง ห้วยน้ำดัง เป็นต้น รวมกันไหลลงสู่แม่น้ำปาย แม่น้ำปิง แม่น้ำแตง

ลักษณะภูมิอากาศฤดูฝน

ระหว่างเดือนพฤษภาคม - เดือนตุลาคม ฤดูหนาว

ระหว่างเดือนพฤศจิกายน - เดือนกุมภาพันธ์ จะมีอุณหภูมิต่ำสุดประมาณ 9°c

ฤดูร้อน ระหว่างเดือนมีนาคม - เดือนเมษายน จะมีอุณหภูมิสูงสุดประมาณ 34°c

พันธุ์ไม้และสัตว์ป่า
สภาพทางธรรมชาติยังคงความอุดมสมบูรณ์ จึงทำให้เกิดสังคมพืชหลากหลายชนิด ประกอบด้วยป่าดิบชื้น ป่าดิบเขา ป่าเบญจพรรณ ป่าสนเขา มีพรรณไม้ที่สำคัญ ได้แก่ ไม้ตะเคียน ยาง จำปีป่า ยมหอม มะม่วงป่า ยมป่า เสลา ดงดำ แดง ประดู่ ตะแบก ตีนนก งิ้วป่า สนสองใบ ไม้ก่อต่าง ๆ เต็ง รัง เป็นต้น

ด้วยความอุดมสมบูรณ์ของสภาพป่า จึงชุกชุมไปด้วยสัตว์ป่านานาชนิด ได้แก่ ช้างป่า กวาง หมี เก้ง เลียงผา หมูป่า เสือ ชะมด ลิง พังพอน เม่น ไก่ป่า ไก่ฟ้า และนกนานาชนิด ได้แก่ นกเปล้า นกแก้ว นกขุนทอง นกขมิ้น นกปรอท และ นกเหยี่ยว เป็นต้น

Poi Sang Long Ceremony 2008 in Mae Hong Son

Mae Hong Son Tourism Coordination Center; Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT.) invites tourists to take part the Poi Sang Long ceremony during 6-8 April 2008 at Don Chedi Temple in Mae Hong Son Municipal of Mae Hong Son Province.

The Mae Hong Son Municipality will hold this ceremony for 3 days and there will be the interesting activities as follow:

The first day of Sunday, 6th April 2008, beginning when the boys have their heads shaved by parents and relatives. Then, they are bathed and anointed with special waters and dressed up elegantly and colorfully while their faces are superbly embellished. By this time, the boys are known locally as 'Sang Long' or 'Look Kaew' (jewel sons). The parade moves around Mae Hong Son Municipal, visiting temples to beg forgiveness from abbots and the city pillar at the beginning of the journey. By late afternoon, the boys are carried back to their homes.

The second day of Monday, 7th April 2008, a grand colorful procession is held, filled with family members and important components of Mae Hong Son’s Shan community. In the parade, there are handmade floats, offerings for the temple, traditional dance and, of course, the boys themselves. The parade begins at Don Chedi Temple, in the city, before it moves down the main streets of town and out to the temples.

The third day of Tuesday, 8th April 2008, the procession once again proceeds through the town and the boys are taken to Don Chedi Temple for the formal ordination ceremony. This year, apart from the Poi Sang Long ceremony at Don Chedi Temple in Mae Hong Son Municipal, tourists can join Poi Sang Long ceremony at other places as follows:

Poi Sang Long ceremony in Mae Hong Son is a Buddhist novice ordination ceremony, but unlike any other ceremony of its type in the country. Young boys aged between 7 and 14 are ordained as novices to learn the Buddhist doctrines. It's believed that they will gain merit ordaining for their parents. The origins of this festival lie in Buddhist legend. It is believed that the tradition is probably following in the footsteps of Prince Rahula, the Buddha's own son, who gave up his worldly life to follow his father's spiritual teachings. Prince Rahula became the youngest ordained monk and the first novice in Buddhism. Subsequently it became a tradition that young boys should ordain to learn Buddhist teachings. With such high reverence to the Buddhist religion, the people here consider that the celebrations should be as grand as possible.

This colorful festival is one of the most delightful in Mae Hong Son, attracting people from far and wide. The local authorities and the Tourism Authority of Thailand consider this festival to be unique to Mae Hong Son province.

White Water Rafting on the Pai River, THAILAND

Mae Nam Pai or the Pai river is the principal river of Mae Hong Son. It originates in the Thanon Tongchai and Danlao mountain ranges in Pai before flowing south through Pai, Pang Ma Pha and Muang Mae Hong Son districts to join with the Salween river from Myanmar’s Kayah state. The river is about 180 km long, passing through beautiful natural scenery and forests. The depth of the river changes from season to season, but the water is cold all year round.Two rafting trips are possible on the Pai river:- Starting from the head of the Pai river to the Mae Surin Waterfall National Park office, Amphur Muang Mae Hong Son. A 70 km. trip taking 2 days and 1 night- Starting from the Khong River, Amphur Pang Ma Pha, to the Mae Surin Waterfall National Park office, Amphur Muang Mae Hong Son. A 45 km trip as either a 2 days / 1 night program or 1 day program.

Tourists will be able to experience the beauty of nature as well as having a lot of fun throughout the trip. Some highlights include Susar Waterfall, caving, mud-bathing and cliff-jumping from a height of more than 10 m. The best period for rafting is between June and February. The grade of the rapids ranges from 1-4, sometimes reaching level 5 in the rainy season when the flow is particularly strong. Visitors should only undertake a rafting trip with a qualified local guide or a tour company specializing in such trips.
